Only a few minutes had passed since she revealed the secret she’d been holding in for what felt like forever and she was already starting to feel a little better. She still had a decision to make but she didn’t feel so … alone anymore.
Salim: You okay?
Camilla: [nods] … I just … I don’t know what to do … I just know we’re not ready for a baby …
Salim: I know … but look … [holds hand] I love you, Camilla, and I’ll do whatever you want. If you want to keep this baby, we can, and we’ll figure everything else out but if you don’t, that’s fine too, we can have a bunch of babies later.
Camilla: [soft laugh]
Salim: And I can’t tell you what to do but whatever it is, we can do it together … I just want us to be together again.
She did want the same thing too but that didn’t change the fact that she didn’t want to always be second place to Aahana.
Camilla, softly: I want that too … but [looks down] what about Aahana?
Salim: [sighs] Camilla …
Camilla: It’s a fair question.
Salim: Listen … Ani has my kids. She’ll always be around because of that and yes, I did love her but that was a long time ago and all that’s over now, for me and for her. [lifts chin] I left her appointment early today to come check on you, did you know that? We were listening to the babies’ heartbeats and all I could think about was you and if you were okay.
He left the appointment for her? Hearing that gave her a strange feeling. A mix of both happiness and guilt. She would never want him to abandon his kids or not be there for them in any way but the fact that he was willing to sacrifice that moment for her made her feel … like she mattered to him … like he would actually put her first. That’s what she was looking for.
Salim: [kisses her] I love you, okay?
Camilla: I love you too.
